Railroad Iuprovriuuits, ' Since the recent purchase by the rail road company of the. property on the South side ot Hanover street, between Second and Third streets, a force of hands have been employed in grading the ground pn the lot bordering on the latter street and laying the foundation fur ' the building which it is contemplated to erect thereon. The foundation walls are of granite blocks which are quarried on the line of the Raleigh and Gaston railroad and are brought from thence by rail. The work is of the most substantial kind and is evidently put there, to stay.' The company is greatly in need of more yard room than it now has at control, and the newly acquired property will furnisli fa cilities it has net heretofore possessed. With the enlargement of the facilities for the workshops, and better conveni ences for passeegcr traffis accommoda tion, and the extensive increase of freight accommodation whith will be accom plished when the improvements on the riverfront, now ,in progress, are 'com pleted, tho road will have ample room for all its probable requirements, instead of being cramped and circumscribed as it now is. The company is also making ready, in addition to all the other improvements in progress, to build the iron bridge across the tracks at the Front' street depot. To accomplish that purpose the old wooden bridge is being torn up at its southern terminus in order to put in a substantial granite abutment for tho new bridge.
